Position description:

The Carbon Containment Lab (CC Lab) is hiring a Conference Coordination Intern to help plan and run The Cooling Conference, a two-day conference taking place April 1st and 2nd in New Haven, CT. The Conference Coordination Intern will work with the team on the logistics that make the event run smoothly, including vendor coordination, speaker support, attendee registration, and on-site operations. We are looking for an organized, proactive person with a background in production or events coordination who enjoys keeping many moving parts on track. The intern will gain hands-on experience helping producing a professional conference and a close view of the people and ideas shaping novel climate solutions.

The ideal candidate would be a current student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program who can begin in late December/ early January and attend in-person meetings at the CC Lab’s New Haven office as needed. The Conference Coordination Intern will be expected to work 5 to 15 hours per week at a pay rate of $20/hr (undergraduate) or $25/hr (graduate) during the planning period, with full availability required on both conference days.

Start and end dates may be flexible depending on candidate availability. We will review applications on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We value a broad array of experiences, perspectives, and excellence. If you share our passion for climate work, we encourage you to apply. We strongly prefer that interns work on-site from our office in New Haven, Connecticut.

  • Managing attendee registration, including setting up and maintaining the registration platform, answering attendee questions, sending confirmations and reminders, and tracking attendance.

  • Helping build and maintain the event timeline, run-of-show, and logistics trackers.

  • Preparing on-site materials such as name badges, signage, and attendee packets.

  • Supporting on-site operations during both conference days, including check-in, room setup, and speaker and vendor support.

  • Assisting with post-conference wrap-up, including attendee surveys, vendor follow-up, and summarizing lessons learned.

  • Participating in CC Lab team meetings and planning sessions, and performing administrative tasks as needed.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience in production, events coordination, stage management, hospitality, or similar work. Experience from student organizations, volunteer roles, or campus events counts.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines at once.

  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication with speakers, vendors, and attendees.

  • Comfort working with spreadsheets and shared planning tools.

  • Ability to stay calm and solve problems quickly when plans change on the day.

  • Interest in climate change mitigation, carbon removal and reduction, environmental policy, or clean energy.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with vendors and venues in the New Haven area.

  • Experience with event registration platforms such as Eventbrite, Cvent, Luma. or Yale events systems

  • Experience using design tools such as Canva or Adobe InDesign for signage and printed materials.

About the CC Lab:

The CC Lab is a forward-thinking climate nonprofit based in New Haven, dedicated to scaling climate solutions by applying scientific, entrepreneurial, and investment expertise. Our current focus is on advancing the understanding and adoption of high-potential climate interventions, including methane measurement and mitigation, carbon dioxide removal and storage, and the recovery and destruction of ultra-potent greenhouse gases.

Founded at the Yale School of the Environment in 2020, the CC Lab spun out as an independent nonprofit in early 2024.

The CC Lab has fourteen dedicated members supported by a broad network of external collaborators, advisors, consultants, and interns. We are fortunate to work in a bright, modern, and vibrant office space in downtown New Haven, close to Yale University, where about a dozen students contribute as part-time interns during the school year and over the summer.

We value teamwork, collaboration, teaching and learning, diversity, creativity, and flexibility. We strive for excellence and impact, and deeply value team members who are passionate about the Lab’s mission.
